We've been in Maryland for almost 3 weeks now and I haven't had my computer until now!!! It's sad how dependant you can get on electronics cause I missed it a lot. Anywho, I still can't believe we drove across the country. Altogether I think it was abou 36ish hours. We caravaned with four other cars (Three married couples, and 3 single guys) We divided it up into three days. The first day we wanted to make it to Denver. While going over the Veil pass in Colorado we got caught in a snow storm and we were going 25 for like 30 or 45 minutes. It was scary! At night we would just find a hotel around a city we wanted to stop in. We usually didn't stop till around one or two in the morning. Other than the bad weather Colorado we had beautiful blue skies the entire way. In Kansas it got pretty windy. I was just waiting for there to be a tornado! But Adam reminded me that there were no clouds in the sky to even make one :) Kansas was the most boring drive...wow. It was flat farming land the entire way. We always went through the pretty places at night when we couldn't see and then boring parts during the day. We spend the majority of the 2nd day going through Kansas. Adam and I switched off driving every once in a while. but I seemd to always be the one that drove through the really busy cities. Going through Kansas City was crazy! The freeway goes straight through the middle of the city so there were turn offs and freeway changes everywhere. For some reason Adam and I got designated to be the front driver the entire way there so it was my fault if we went the wrong way. Luckily we had our handy-dandy GPS that Adam got for his birthday and that has definitely been a life-saver since we left Idaho. I still use it everyday because the roads here have no rhyme or reason and they change names all the time. Thanks mom and dad :)
I'm sure everyone wants to see some pictures so I'll start showing you some we took!
This is either Indianapolis or St. Louis..I can't remember. It's been too long!
A few days after we got there we (us and the two other married couple we always hang out with) decided to go to the zoo and see some of the sites. I honestly wasn't too impressed with this zoo. (Adam was disappointed we didn't see any monkies) I think the zoo in Salt Lake is a lot better than this one was. It didn't help that there were a billion people there. Anyways, we took a lot of pictures, but I'll just show you a few.
Waiting for our friends to get some food. The prices were outrageous. A bottle of water was $3.00!
This was my favorite. There were three pandas and all of them were sitting the exact same. We couldn't decided whether he was eating bamboo or an apple, but the little girl standing next to us informed us that it was bamboo haha.
After the zoo we were going to go see some of the DC sites, but we hit 5:00 traffic and it took us an hour and half in downtown DC to get 3 miles. The drivers here are nothing like in Idaho. They are extremely aggressive and will let themselves into the tiniest space. How rude. Finally, after driving around forever we found $17 parking and walked halfway to the Washington Monument in the dark and decided to come back another day.
Silly boys in Macy's. (Adam, Mike, and Chase) The girls wanted to look at drapes in the mall so the boys tagged along. This mall is about 5 miles from where we live and has a huge Macy's and a 3 level Nordstom. Heaven!
Adam and I decided to go to DC the next day because the weather was going to be beautiful. The metro stops right downtown where we live here in Rockville so we hopped on that. It was A LOT faster than driving. Our first stop was.......
The White House! (Obviously :) ) We couldn't get very close. That black fence on the bottom of the picture was the closest you could get. In the front yard they had fences set up for the Easter Egg Hunt.
Sorry to cut it short, but I'm gonng have to do a second post tomorrow of everything else we saw. It's getting pretty late here. It's like 10 and Adam probably won't be home for another hour and a half (Sad :() I'm sure you'll see some more complaining about that part, but till then..goodnight!
Yay! finally a post! we miss you guys already! you can now say you've driven across the country (gag). hope every thing is wonderful. i wanna see pics of your place!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the world! :) Me and Andrea are always complaining about the drives here in UT. In comparison to DC, I don't think we should be complaining. We miss you guys! I still can' believe that you are two time zones away... How can that be?... You are still 13?
